Dog of wisdom gif
Dogs can represent wisdom, truth, integrity, and beauty. Many philosophers and writers through history have associated certn characteristics of the dog with certn attributes of human beings. Some modern philosophers have adopted this practice, making the dog an ideal companion for wisdom, truth, integrity, and beauty.
In the Middle Ages, the philosopher Thomas Aquinas wrote, "When I contemplate the nature of a dog, I think of the nature of man, because I see in man a rational soul that sees good and evil and chooses good.". Aquinas associated dogs with wisdom because of their intelligence, which makes them superior to other animals. Thomas à Kempis, one of the most well-known spiritual writers, described dogs as "prs of two hearts that are always joined in friendship.". In John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, Wisdom, accompanied by Fth, is the angel who directs the pilgrim, "Go and sin no more.". The phrase of Wisdom's command, "Go and sin no more" has been used by many dog trners to stop a dog from doing something wrong.
Aristotle regarded dogs as the best kind of companion for a philosopher, and sd: "If we are searching for truth, it will not be found in cities and nations, rather, it can be found in hunting dogs, which is why philosophers should also spend time with hunting dogs, rather than horses, as the ones who trn these hunting dogs are not corrupted by city life."
In contrast, Epicurus thought a dog was a suitable companion for a fool. He wrote: "A sensible man, I hold, will find his pleasure in the company of a wise man, but in the company of a foolish one he will find no pleasure at all.".
Wisdom appears as a dog in several famous sculptures. For example, a dog in the statue of Athena Polias (Athena of the City) guards the Acropolis at Athens.
According to Greek mythology, the first dog was called Pausiteles (Παοσίτηλες), from the Greek word παύσις meaning "pause". However, this explanation is not universally accepted, since the same word is also used in different contexts to mean a "halt" or a "stop".
In Classical Greek the use of the term for 'dog' was οἶκος (oikos). The compound term οἶκος γαϊτοκόμος or οἶκος καρφάγος refers to a family member. In ancient Rome, a common term for "couple" was the word "canis" from which we get the word "cani" or "canius".
In the Bible, dogs were also referred to as "dogs of hell", or a "disease" (in contrast to "lions", "young lions", or "young men", referring to the lion as the King of the animals). When Noah landed on dry land after the Flood, he had two dogs with him, with which he licked the mud off his feet.
"Hound" in English has no direct translation in any other language, but the Spanish term caníbales or perro faldero means "lapdog".
Dogs were originally the property of the state, but then, as dogs no longer had a specific use within the state and became the property of the land owner, the term changed to 'breed'.
Breeds and names
Although no single breed of dog predates the present day, one of the earliest breeds known was the ancient wolfdog.
Dogs are generally classified into three mn types, wild, semi-domesticated and domestic. Dogs vary in colour, size and shape. Although some wild canines may be smaller, wild dogs can vary greatly in size.
The wild type, such as the grey wolf or the various canids in the taxonomic order Carnivora, are the only true wolves. The semi-domesticated type of dog, include the greyhound and the dingo, are the descendants of working or sporting dogs, and were used as guard animals, hunting dogs, or to pull sledges. The domestic dog has evolved and diversified into an almost myriad number of breeds, and is usually the type of dog found as a pet.
There are estimated to be more than 1.5 million dog breeds in the world. The most common breeds in Western countries, and even some in the Middle East, are the mongrel (mixed breed) and the terrier. The American Kennel Club is the world's largest dog registry, with over 600,000 registered breeds.
Breeds and names
Breeds and names of dogs change constantly, but the names are always in an attempt to recreate the original dog, and so dogs have been described by many names such as wolves, spitz, bluetick, greyhound and setter.
The wolf, of various types, is the ancestor of all dogs. A wolf (canis lupus) has been referred to as a "lupus" from at least the time of Aristotle. However, not all dogs are wolves.
Coydogs are the result of cross-breeding a wolf (Canis lupus) with an unrelated dog. The first coydogs in America were born in the 1600s. In the mid-1800s, "coy" dogs were used in dog shows and in packs to hunt wolves.
The crossbred dog is the result of breeding two or more different breeds to produce a particular desired characteristic. The two major types are crossbred (mixed breed) dogs, and hybrid dogs. Mixed breed dogs may have both a wolf (canis lupus) and a dog (canis familiaris) blood in them. Hybrid dogs are the result of mating a dog with a wolf.
Spitzes or spitz dogs have a short coat and weigh between 10 and 20 pounds. They were first seen in the United States in the 1800s. Some of the most well known spitzes include the poodle, pug, bulldog, schnauzer, French bulldog, English bulldog and boxer. Spitzes were originally bred as hunting dogs. A spitz was also called a shankapoo.
Terriers are dogs which were bred to be able to quickly chase a prey. These dogs typically have small heads, stubby legs, and long hr. The most well known terriers include the Australian, bulldog, foxterrier, terrier, and American bulldog. Terriers were originally bred to be protection dogs. They would be the first to bite when in distress.
The pit bull is the result of two separate dogs. One dog was bred to have the trts of being fearless, and the other dog was bred to have a more agile, fast moving gt. Pit bulls are bred to have strong bones and muscles. They are noted for their protective, loyal, and intelligent nature. In 2017, a study was conducted by the CDC (Center for Disease Control). It was found that pit bulls were much more likely to be involved in biting than any other type of dog. This is mostly because of what pit bulls have been bred to do. For example, a pit bull's jaw muscles are
